Haworth Announces 2012 Sales of $1.31 Billion

HOLLAND, MI – February 8, 2013 – Haworth, Inc. today announced 2012 global sales totaling $1.31 billion.  While overall sales declined five percent from 2011 - due to the sales of two partner companies, Castelli and Groupe Lacasse - Haworth continues to experience growth around the world.

“We are satisfied with our 2012 results in what was a challenging economic environment for our industry in many parts of the world,” said Franco Bianchi, Haworth president and CEO.  “We continue to aggressively drive key elements of our growth platforms while realizing value in creating new, strategic opportunities.” 

Haworth continues to be encouraged by the 2012 growth experienced in Asia and Latin America as well as in key business segments.  In 2012, Haworth’s Asia Pacific sector launched Infinity , a personalized office infrastructure platform that can be customized to evolve with the needs of businesses.  In Haworth’s European sector, Henning Figge joined the company as vice president of Europe.  In this leadership role, Figge is leading the European sector towards completing its journey to best-in-class customer satisfaction, market-share growth, and profitability.

In March, Architectural Record and the American Architectural Foundation presented Haworth with the Lifetime Achievement Patron Award.  The award recognized Haworth’s global headquarters in Holland, Michigan, which was designed by Perkins + Will and was a 2009 Good Design Is Good Business award winner, as a model for collaboration between client and architect to create a space tailored to business needs and goals.

For the fourth time in eight years, Haworth received Contract Magazine’s Best Large Showroom award at NeoCon.  Additionally, four of the six products introduced by the company were recognized as Best of NeoCon – Lively, gold in the seating – ergonomic category; workware, gold in the technology support category; Planes Training Table, gold in the training and work tables category; and Belong, silver in the office accessories category.

One of the products receiving Best of NeoCon gold, Lively, is the newest addition to Haworth’s seating family.  The 2012 launch of Lively bolstered Haworth’s already strong range of ergonomic seating.  The Lively Task and Side chairs are targeted towards small- to mid-sized businesses.  Both chairs are fully customizable and meet the ergonomic-support needs of its users.
While traditional furniture products – like Lively – were well received at NeoCon, it was Haworth’s technology solution workware that garnered the most attention.  Workware allows users to plug-in or launch software on their laptop to connect wirelessly to an external video display.  With workware, people can connect, share, and collaborate easily, from anywhere.

Haworth released its seventh annual sustainability report and in May, announced that its Portugal manufacturing sites achieved zero-waste to-landfill, which resulted in all global Haworth’s sites being landfill free.

2012 was also a significant year for Haworth showrooms.  In December, the United States Green Building Council presented Haworth with a LEED Platinum certification for the achievement of green design, construction, and operation of its Atlanta Showroom.  In addition to Atlanta, Haworth’s Zurich Showroom was awarded a LEED Gold certification.  Haworth also partnered with Perkins + Will, GMB Architecture + Engineering, and Turner Construction to create its new Boston showroom, which is expected to be certified LEED Gold.
